Wednesday Wins

Progress Over Perfection

Every Wednesday, I’d love to know what you’re winning at. While I think it’s important to win. I also think it’s important to celebrate your win. In order to do that, we have to know what we’re winning at or even know that we’ve one. How do you do that?

Message Content The image has a beige background with text in a cursive, dark brown font centered on it. The text reads: “What’s Your Wednesday Win?” The image is simple with no additional graphics or decorations.

here’s how.

Ask yourself, Did I get anything done today?

Many of you are going to think not much or nothing at all.

Truth is that if you woke up this morning, you did something riveting. You woke up to see the sun rise, or if you’re anything like me, you saw that it had risen while you were snoozing and having the craziest dreams ever.

What I’m trying to say is that you don’t have to fly to the moon and b ack to have succeeded during the day. you don’t have to have reached Nirvana or perfected the scene you’ve been working on for weeks.

By the way, if you’ve been working on a scene for weeks, take my advice and move on to the next scene. The one you’re obsessing over will still be there when you finish others and come back to it.

Remember the goal is to make progress during a first draft. We’ll get to the editing and all that jazz as it comes. Oh, and if you have a list as long as your right or left arm, please cut it in half, then a couple more halves, and start with the most important items and work your way down. trust me, you’ll thank yourself.

Make progress, stop seeking perfection [spoiler alert: it doesn’t exist], and be kind to yourself.
